MeterBoard ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Information
- Name, email address, and phone number (provided during registration)
- Profile information (avatar, display name)
- Authentication credentials (password hash, social login tokens)
2.2 Location Data
- Real-time GPS coordinates during active trips
- Route history and trip records
- Start and end addresses (derived from GPS coordinates)

- App usage patterns and feature interactions
- Device information (OS version, device model)
- Crash reports and performance data

- To provide fare calculation and trip tracking services
- To manage your account and fleet memberships
- To enable real-time location sharing within fleets
- To generate trip summaries and route maps
- To send important service notifications and announcements
- To improve our app and develop new features
4. Location Data Usage
MeterBoard requires location access to function properly. Specifically:
- During active trips: We collect GPS data to calculate fares, track routes, and detect idle periods.
- Fleet tracking: If you are part of a fleet, your location may be shared with fleet administrators in real-time.
- Background location: When a trip is active, we continue tracking your location in the background only while metering is running, so distance and fare keep updating accurately even if you switch apps or lock your device. Background tracking starts when you begin a trip and stops automatically the moment the trip ends.
- No idle background tracking: We do not collect or share your location when no trip is active. Your location is never used for advertising, profiling, or sold to third parties.
You can stop location tracking at any time by ending your trip, closing the app, or revoking location permission in your device settings.
5. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:
- Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the fare calculation and fleet management services you requested (account management, trip tracking, fare calculation)
- Consent: Location tracking, push notifications, and advertising personalization — you can withdraw consent at any time through app settings or device permissions
- Legitimate interests: App improvement, security monitoring, fraud prevention, and analytics — balanced against your privacy rights
- Legal obligations: Where we are required by law to process or retain your data
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
- Fleet administrators: Your location and trip data within your fleet (only with your consent by joining the fleet)
- Service providers: Third-party services that help us operate (listed in Section 12), under data processing agreements
- Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights
7. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including countries that may not provide the same level of data protection. When we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place:
- Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission
- Data processing agreements with all service providers
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest
8. Data Storage and Security
- Trip data is stored on our secure servers
- Local trip data is cached on your device for offline access
- We use encryption for data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
- Authentication tokens are securely stored
- We conduct regular security assessments
- Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only
9. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specific retention periods:
- Account data: Until account deletion
- Trip records: Until account deletion (available for export)
- Location data: Real-time location data is retained for up to 24 hours after a trip ends; route history is kept with trip records
- Log data: Up to 90 days
When you delete your account, all personal data and trip records are permanently removed within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
All Users
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Account deletion (in-app): You can delete your account and all associated personal data directly within the app at Settings → Account → Delete Account. Once submitted, your account, profile, trip records, and personal data will be permanently removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., tax or financial records). Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics.
- Data export: Export your trip history in a portable format
EEA/UK Residents (GDPR)
- Data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Right to be forgotten: Request erasure of your personal data
- Restriction of processing: Request that we limit how we use your data
- Object to processing: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
- Lodge a complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection authority
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
- Right to know: What personal information we collect, use, and disclose
- Right to delete: Request deletion of your personal information
- Right to opt-out: We do not sell personal information. If this changes, we will provide a "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" option
- Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights
Brazil Residents (LGPD)
- You have similar rights to GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to information about data sharing

11. Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses essential cookies for functionality. Our mobile app does not use cookies but may use:
- App Tracking Transparency (iOS): On iOS 14.5 and later, we comply with Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. Before any third-party service (e.g. AdMob, Meta) may use tracking identifiers such as IDFA for personalized advertising or cross-app/website tracking, we will display the standard iOS permission prompt and ask for your explicit consent. If you decline, those identifiers will not be used and you will see only non-personalized ads. You can change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Google AdMob: May use advertising identifiers for personalized ads (free tier only). On iOS, this is subject to your ATT choice above. On Android, you can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings (Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization).
- Google Analytics for Firebase: We use Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymized usage data (e.g. screens viewed, ads watched, trips started) to improve the app. No personal information is used for analytics, and the data is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
12. Third-Party Services
Our app integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Apple Sign in with Apple (iOS): Authentication on iOS devices. Apple may issue a private relay email address ("Hide My Email"); we only receive a stable user identifier and the name and/or email you choose to share at first sign-in. We do not receive your Apple ID password — Apple Privacy
- Google Sign-In / Facebook Login: Authentication — Google Privacy, Meta Privacy
- Google Maps / OpenStreetMap: Map display and geocoding — Google Privacy
- Firebase: Real-time features, push notifications and Google Analytics for Firebase (anonymized usage analytics) — Firebase Privacy
- Google AdMob: Advertisements for free tier users — Google Privacy
13. Children's Privacy
MeterBoard is not intended for use by children under 16 (or under 13 in jurisdictions where 13 is the applicable age). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
14. Do Not Track
We honor Do Not Track (DNT) signals. When DNT is enabled, we disable non-essential tracking and analytics.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through:
- In-app notifications
- Email (for material changes)
- Updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page
Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
